I was born and raised in The Netherlands, the crowded low country next to the sea in North-western Europe. After traveling through Australia and East- and Southern Africa, living in Spain and France, and studying for one magnificent year in New York City, I landed in another small country along the sea (the Mediterranean this time): Lebanon.
I settled in Beirut in 2007 after graduating with a Master’s degree in social and cultural Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. My master’s thesis was based on my research among the Lebanese upper class in the summer of 2006. I have since published in Etnofoor, a Dutch Anthropological magazine (Fall 2008) and various other publications, and I have spoken about the same topic at the conference about ‘Marginalization and Mobilization of Youth in the Middle East’ at the American University of Beirut (May 2009).
In October 2009, I moved to Amsterdam with my (Lebanese) husband, and I am currently studying at the University of Amsterdam to become a Social Science teacher.

Ik ben geboren en opgegroeid in Nederland, dat kleine, drukke land aan de zee in Noordwest Europa. Na rondreizen door Australië en Oost- en Zuidelijk Afrika, wonen in Spanje en Frankrijk, en een geweldig jaar studeren in New York City, ben ik in een ander klein landje aan de zee terecht gekomen (deze keer de Middellandse zee): Libanon.
In 2007 heb ik me min of meer permanent in Beiroet gevestigd na het behalen van mijn doctoraal in de culturele antropologie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Mijn scriptie was gebaseerd op mijn onderzoek onder de jongeren van de Libanese upper class tijdens de zomer van 2006. Er zijn sindsdien artikelen van mijn hand verschenen in Etnofoor, een Nederlands antropologisch tijdschrift (Herfst 2008), en in verschillende andere tijdschriften en dagbladen zoals CUL, De Volkskrant, en Trouw. In Mei 2009 sprak ik op de conferentie over ‘Marginalization and Mobilization of the Youth in the Middle East’ aan de American University of Beirut.
In oktober 2009 ben ik naar Amsterdam verhuisd, samen met mijn (Libanese) man, waar ik momenteel in opleiding ben voor lerares Maatschappijleer aan de UvA.
