What I really wanted to say about that
“The absence of Marwa’s story from the mainstream media and the failure to start a debate about the immediate dangers of present European anti-Muslim racism shows the depth of the problem and draws us to expect a gloomy future for Muslims in Europe. Muslims like Neda only get to the news if their story serves the dominant narrative that presents Islam as the primary threat to freedom, while Muslims like Marwa who expose the pervasive racism of the West and challenge the existing stereotypes fail to get their story told.”

Lieve Nicolien and dear Walid,
1. het ‘open deur’-filmpje is egwelleuk, maar mischien meer voor ‘jongetjes’dan voor meisjes?
So don’t worry, you’re both on the right side!
2. Hartgrondig eens met de analyse van de kleuring/simplificering van de/onze media in complexe kwesties. ‘Trouw’plaatste juist vanmorgen is de marge op pag 5. een berichtje over de verontwaardiging in Egypte over de bespreking van de rechtbank-moord +schiet-partij in de duitse media!
Ik ben het zeer eens met de laatse alinea van Walid’s artikel : de gevaarlijkste politieke misvatting bestaat erin ‘zeker te weten’ dat bepaalde (slechte)dingen nooit weer zullen plaatsvinden. Kennis van de menselijke conditie en gedegen kennis van de geschiedenis leren het tegendeel.
De naoorlogse ontwikelingen in Palestina ‘e.o’ samen met de stucturele ontwrichting van de orientale samenleving sinds de jaren’20 door de billioenendeal van het westen met de regionale machthebbbers over energie versus dollars lijken mij een vrij zekere voorbode van een volgende grote confrontatie.So : keep on writing to prevent the worst1!
